I Quit Today! (Im not quitting)
A year ago today, I quit government consulting to start my own business. To honor this anniversary, I want to share a sneak peak about the progress of MarksList(TM), an evaluation tool for every organization type under the sun. Im excited to show you what research suggests we should think of key organizations, instead of what they tell us to think about them via all their own ads and branding.
While Im still analyzing major nonprofits and corporations against ISO 9000 and ISO 26000 standards, I have completed my analysis of the USA government and world governments. Every person who has seen my tool has warned me about backlash, saying its great but simple people may not understand it and be angrier. Their concern for me is appreciated, but Im betting on democracy, and people, and that truth will win out. Are you ready for this? It may surprise you. It may even offend you. Okay, here we go:
MarksList(TM) USA Gov Findings: "We can find no evidence that any agency is using highly developed data stewardship in decision making, let alone operating by controlled process, meaning our federal government is at best operating at level 3 quality (out of 6, which I will explain upon release). After incorporating data from employees, customers, and inspectors, all government objectives earned a D minus, with the exception of space exploration and arts and humanities functions, which are each graded at a B minus, and education and elections objectives, which are each graded at an E minus."
Based on my couple years in government, I can attest that these low grades are NOT the fault of our federal workers (bless em for living through this recent 35 day shutdown), but what happens when agencies are underfunded and understaffed to execute their missions. How does the USA compare to other governments you ask?
MarksList(TM) World Gov Findings: "Of the 28 developed countries considered, six (Australia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain) earn a grade of D, and the rest are an E, most due to extremely low scores in healthcare efficiency. The USA is extremely low in healthcare efficiency, okay in three indices, good in three, and extremely good (aka great), in none."
My methods still have shortfalls, which I will describe when I release the full first edition in several more weeks. At that time I will welcome additions and reviews via email to markslistinput@gmail.com. Thats right, we are going to crowdsource this baby and keep it updated! Together we are going to raise the excellence of our institutions! More to come soon.
Peace, Love, and Light!
